In today's information society, reading comprehension and writing skills are essential for everyone. The English major offers a rich and varied education in the vital areas of literature, critical thinking, media study, and writing. The program deepens understanding of our cultural traditions, provides a breadth of knowledge and skills appropriate for many degree and vocational programs, and prepares students for transfer to four-year institutions. English majors possess analytical, creative, and observant minds, and enter varied professional fields such as publishing, advertising, law, teaching, public relations, corporate communications, and journalism. To ensure that their transfer objectives are met, English majors should consult with a counselor.
