Paramedic Program – College Catalog Description:

The Allan Hancock College Paramedicine Program is an intensive 11-month academy spanning multiple consecutive terms. This program is specifically designed to prepare students for success on the National Registry of EMT’s (NREMT) Paramedic Certification Examination, a critical step toward earning certification as a Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) in California. This rigorous program of study combines classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory training, clinical hospital internships, and field internships, ensuring students acquire the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies essential for a career in prehospital emergency medicine.

Those completing the paramedicine program of study are well-prepared for employment as entry-level paramedics in a variety of settings, including municipal and private ambulance services providing advanced life support (ALS) 9-1-1 emergency response, fire departments, hospital-based roles, and interfacility transport services specializing in advanced levels of patient care. Additionally, paramedics may find opportunities in industrial emergency response teams, aeromedical transport, event and entertainment medical services, and other specialized EMS environments requiring advanced prehospital care.

As a special admissions academy program, applicants must complete all prerequisite requirements before applying and successfully pass the Paramedic Entrance/Selection Process. Admitted students must also meet clinical/field internship agency requirements, including:

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screening
  • Submission of immunization records verifying required vaccinations and/or titers

This program ensures that those completing the program of study are fully prepared as competent entry-level paramedics, achieving proficiency in cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavioral) learning domains. The curriculum adheres to national standards for safe and effective emergency patient care, equipping students with the critical thinking, clinical judgment, and technical expertise necessary to excel in the field of Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
