Introduction to Cybercrime

This introductory course provides students with the fundamental knowledge in Information Technology and Cybersecurity. Topics address cybercrime and cybersecurity, including the internet and communication technologies, addressing how they present new challenges to collective safety, social order and stability, economic prosperity and political liberty. Cybersecurity essentials, OS installation and hardening, Windows and Linux administration, networking fundamentals and basics of cloud computing.

            Basic principles of algorithmic problem solving and programming using methods of top-down design, stepwise refinement and procedural abstraction. Basic control structures, data types, and input/output. Introduction to the software development process: design, implementation, testing and documentation. The syntax and semantics of a modern programming language.

                  Ethical Hacking

                  This course provides students with basic offensive operations, penetration testing, risk assessment and management, incident response, security controls, and enterprise network security concepts. Hands on, technical skills will be emphasized. Defense in depth topics such as network and computer attacks, digital fingerprinting, port scanning, enumeration, forensics, cryptography and operating systems vulnerabilities and hardening are covered. 

                  This course also prepares students for the CompTIA Pentest+ certificate.

                            Introduction to Network Security

                            A comprehensive overview of network security. General security concepts, communications security, infrastructure security, basics of cryptography, and operational/organizational security will be covered. Prepares students to take the CompTIA Security+ Certification Exam at Prometric or Vue sites. The course is not open to students who are enrolled or have received credit for EL 333.

                                    Networking Essentials 1

                                    First course in a series designed to provide students with knowledge of and laboratory experiences with current and emerging computer networking technology. Focus will be on LANs, WANs, OSI models, IP addressing, cabling, CompTIA Network+, and network standards; the theory behind the various kinds of network architectures and data transmission methods, and the use of decision-making and problem-solving techniques in applying science, mathematics, and communication concepts to solve networking problems. Instruction and training are provided in the proper care, maintenance, and use of networking software, tools, and equipment. Emphasis will be placed on the Cisco System Certification. Not open to students who have received credit for EL 106 or CS 106.

                                            Information Security Awareness for Business Professionals
                                            The focus of this course is to provide the students with the practical knowledge to protect their personal computers and networks from increasingly sophisticated attacks and apply these skills to business practice. This course addresses questions like: What type of attacks will antivirus software prevent? How do I set up a firewall? How can I test my computer to be sure that attackers cannot reach it through the Internet? How do I protect mobile devices? Students learn answers to these questions through a series of real-life user experiences and a straightforward presentation of information. The course includes hands on projects and case projects that give students the opportunity to apply what they have learned.
